I’ve only visited Pixelatl a few times since it moved to Guadalajara. In fact, I had already been invited when I was in Cuernavaca, but it was a very bittersweet experience that I’ll tell you about in a video later. The first time I went as an assistant to GDL was with my friend José Luis Abreu when he presented his PopSlinger video game for Nintendo, and it was fantastic because I got to learn about several really interesting animation projects. Solo he visitado Pixelatl un par de veces desde que se mudó a Guadalajara, de hecho ya me habían invitado antes cuando estaba en Cuernavaca, pero fue algo muy amargo que luego les contaré en un video. The thing is, this year, because of work issues, I didn’t have much time to explore the event. However, I realized there was something called “The Comic Corridor.” I didn’t know Pixelatl had an area for authors, and I thought it was great that space was given to comic creators. The coolest part is that since it was on the esplanade, you didn’t have to pay the entrance fee to the event, so you could have a very friendly approach with all the artists. It was four days, and I will share some photos I took and what I saw on the day I visited :).

La cosa es que este año, por cuestiones de trabajo no me dió mucho tiempo para recorrer el evento, pero me di cuenta que había algo que se llamaba “El Corredor del Cómic”, no sabía que Pixelatl tenía un área de autores y se me hizo genial que se le diera espacio a los creadores de cómics y lo más genial, es que como fue en la explanada, no tenías que pagar la entrada del evento, así que podrías tener un acercamiento muy amigable con todos los artistas, fueron cuatro días y les compartiré aquí algunas fotos que tomé y lo que vi en ese día que fui de visita :).

Andrea Paredes, also known as DRIU, is the winner of the SecuenciArte 2024 contest with her comic, XOLO! I found it absolutely beautiful! The art is stunning, and the story takes you on a journey to the underworld where a living girl manages to cross the threshold to meet a loved one. And believe me, you won’t be able to guess who she went to see it’s super moving. I love the Day of the Dead, and this comic, both for its art and its story, completely captivated me. The prize is well-deserved! 😀

Ella es Andrea Paredes, DRIU, ganadora del concurso de SecuenciArte 2024 con su cómic XOLO, el cual me pareció ¡precioso! el arte es super bonito y la historia te lleva en una travesía al inframundo donde un niña viva logra cruzar el umbral para encontrarse con un ser querido y créanme, no se imaginan a quien fue a ver, es super conmovedor, de por si, el día de los muertos, es una celebración mexicana que me encanta y este cómic tanto por su arte y su historia, me atrapó, muy merecido el premio. 😀

It’s always a pleasure to see Ram Orozco. I met him last year at the FIL Comic Fair. This year, he participated in Pixelatl with his beautiful comic, Mamá Pato. It was one of the finalists, and although it didn’t win, I truly believe it’s a book that deserves to be published. Pau Izumi’s work—wow! I’m sure I’ve seen her at several events, but my short-term memory tends to forget faces. However, this time I picked up several of her things. Her comic El Gato Tuerto made me tear up; the connection we share with animals is divine. It’s a VERY emotional story, and I found it incredibly beautiful that the image on her table is actually her own kitten! I’ll definitely be following her work closely, as she has many interesting projects.

El trabajo de Pau Izumi, wow, estoy segura haberla visto en varios eventos, pero mi memoria de corto plazo suele olvidar rostros, sin embargo esta vez me llevé varias cosas de ella, su cómic “El Gato Tuerto” hizo que me saliera una lagrima, esa conexión que tenemos con los animales es divina, es una historia MUY emotiva y lo que se me hizo muy bonito, es que la imagen de su mesa, precisamente es su gatito 😀 Definitivamente seguiré su trabajo de cerca, porque tiene muchos proyectos interesantes.

I was so surprised to see Pato Delgado and Tere Martínez! I hadn’t seen them in years. They’re friends from Monterrey, and with the news that Pato is releasing his movie ULTRA DUCK—wow! I’m really proud of him because he’s always been someone I’ve truly admired. I also chatted with Tere a bit; she’s one of my favorite women and artists. It was fantastic to see them both again.

Me sorprendió ver a Pato Delgado y Tere Martinez, hacía AÑOS que no los veía, son amigos de Monterrey y con la novedad de que Patito sacará su película de ULTRA DUCK 😀 O sea, wow!
